Microsoft.Extensions.Logging

Jun 23, 2016 at 8:03 PM
I have been working on an implementation of Microsoft.Extensions.Logging using Essential Diagnostics. Instead of using logical scope in ILogger.BeginScope, I am using activity scope TraceActivityScope.

Anyone interested is me making this public?

Essential Diagnostics are really just extensions to TraceListener, so should be compatible with the Microsoft.Extensions.Logging TraceListener implementation. i.e. no change to the logger side; only thing that needs to change are the listeners. Logical operation scopes (which is what ILogger.BeginScope looks like) are okay, but I think correlation is far more important (of course, you could use scopes for correlation).

Happy to take a look at what you are working on, but as mentioned on the other thread, I'm thinking of making a v2.0 (because SemVer, breaking change) and splitting up into separate nuget packages... maybe even try and make .NET Standard / .NET Core compatible.
